Polka Dots, Green Bag

You would never know by the title that the layout I am sharing with you today is Lily's first day of 8th grade photo.  This is the first year that I didn't have a say in what Lily wore heading off for an occassion such as this.  I really wanted the cool pink dress with her jean jacket to be "the" outfit.  She had other ideas! Lily went with the polka dotted jean shirt and her new green canvas backpack.

I really wanted the polka dotted paper to pop in this layout so I chose the bright yellow dotted Gymnastics paper (#1417) from the " Sports & Activities" Line. I love how it stands out in contrast to the green cardstock.

To give my photo and all the bits of handcut chevron Racing paper (#1422 from "Sports and Activities) height, I used Helmar ZapDots.  You can see in the photo above how the picture and paper are about 1/8" off the paper.

What did your child wear for the first day of school this year?

#5 Hey batter batter ...

Around here an athlete's number is such a big part of them but when we play fall baseball they hand out t-shirts with the numbers 1-11 and you get what you get.  Last year was my son's first time ever playing a sport without his beloved #55 on his jersey ... but the #3 came and went in a blink of an eye.  This fall he is sporting the #5 on his baseball t-shirt.  The #5 is better for two reasons - it is the number worn by the Rockies Carlos Gonzales and because people tease my son about losing one of his 5's! :)

I Feel Like A Pro!

Hey Football Fans! It's Lynette Daniel the newest Design Team Member and since we are in the "throws" of the fall season and I wanted to make a bold graphic statement to replicate my son Zach's cool wide receiver gloves. When his hands are together it spells NIKE. To make this monochromatic layout, I started with a textured piece of white cardstock and hand painted the black burst. Then cut a neutral overlay of medium gray cardstock for the spiked effect. Next, I hand cut the PRO title with an Excel Hobby Blade and used black Stickles to make it shine. The clear football shape is hard to see in the scan but I hand cut the P logo for the Princeton Tigers and glued it on the helmet. Please give me your feedback on how you are "receiving" my new designs!

Time to Say Goodbye...

Hey, everyone!

Today is my last post for Scrappin' Sports & More.  Sadly, I've made the decision that it's time to move on.  My kids are only involved in a few sports right now and... well....it's just time to move on.  For my last post, I wanted to share some of my favorite projects that I've done during my time here at Scrappin' Sports.

And one of the very first layouts I ever did for SS&M is still one of my favorites:

I want to thank Lori, Karen and the rest of the SS&M Team for a wonderful time while on this team.  Not only have I learned a ton, but I have felt the love and support of this team for almost 2 1/2 years.  I am so grateful that they took a chance on me.  Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

I would love for you all to stop by my blog: Four Wise Guys and stay in touch.

And for the last time... thanks for stopping by the Scrappin' Sports Blog today.  I hope you were inspired.

Waiting for Daddy

I am sure that these photos are not new to many of you.  Our pets show such love for us.  Delta will wait forever by the back door waiting for her Daddy to come inside.  She will sit and whimper if he takes too long.  And then...once that door opens....she is just a wiggly mess.  LOL  We are so fortunate to be able to be shown this unconditional love by our pets.

It may be hard to tell but I curled strips of the blue stripped paper to create some flowers in the left hand corner of the layout.  I also roughed up the sides of my two background papers.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a wonderful day and hug those faithful pets!

I'm your biggest fan!

While my girls only have one dance recital a year, there are several opportunities for me to tell them how great I think they're doing in their classes.  Both of my dancers work VERY hard  to meet the standards of their levels and this year, they were both promoted in several of their classes so I am one proud mama!
I made this card (two of the same, really) to let them know that I am their biggest fan!!

Just a quick and easy card...I spent more time coloring in my stamped image than assembling the card (of which I used no real adhesive..I sewed the papers to the card base and used pop dots for the rest).  All from scraps on my desk from the last ballet layout I created...so next time you are finished with a layout, create a card with your scraps and let someone know that you're their biggest fan!

How fast can you pitch?

The last time we were at the Rockies baseball game, my son wanted to test his pitching arm strength to see how fast he can pitch - I think 51 & 53 mph is pretty good for an 11 year old (and much harder & more accurate than I could throw! :) )

What Is This Feeling?

In our family music is a source of happiness!  Quite often silence is not heard in our house because music is being played on the iPod, or Scott playing Bass, or one of us belting out a song just because we feel like it at that moment.

Lily is the singer in our family (I pretend sometimes).  She loves Broadway tunes and has an affinity for the musical "Wicked."  This past spring she performed "What Is This Feeling?" from "Wicked" with her girlfriend at A.D.A.M. They were pretty good for their first live performance together!

Due to the lighting at this venue getting a good picture was difficult, but I still wanted to document this event for Lily.  I focused on using a great color in the background to pull the viewer in. This is why I chose the kelly green dotted paper.  It is the backside of the new Golf paper (#1416) found in the "Sports and Activities" line.  Isn't it so bold and fun?

To create the hexagons, I cut the Dance paper (#1341) from "The Sport Is..." using my Sizzix 2" Hexagon die cut.  The pictures and hexagons are bordered with plain black cardstock to make them pop just a little bit.

I hope you find some time for a bit of music in your life today!

Just Dance!

It's HOMECOMING time and Lynette Daniel, our newest design team member has created a layout that makes you want to dance! She used a simple design she sketched out by only needing 1 main piece of Scrappin' Sports & More Homecoming Paper, and a sliver/scrap of Volleyball paper! 2 pieces of hot pink WorldWin Papers Colormates Cardstock. In photoshop, Lynette desaturated the photo she took of her beautiful daughter Taylor and added a little paint and glitter to her bouquet to match the paper theme color. What pops is a fun Crafters Workshop Template Lynette painted the "dancer" right onto the Homecoming paper. You can just feel the rhythm! For embellishments, Lynette added black Stickles on the "dance" title, "disco sequins" to capture the light, sewed a fun black jute twine twirling stitch down the side and added clever safety pins to make this a rockin' teenage layout!

Kindergarten Readiness

This is my now 8th grader his first year at St. Michael's School.  He looks so excited in the pictures it's hard not to smile and remember those simpler years of school.  No homework, just fun times!!  I love looking back and seeing just how far he has come.  They grow up so fast; it's hard to believe that this was only a short time ago.

I used a fun star border punch that always works well with school themes and added a few star brads.  I also braided 3 colors of twine together for the banner topper.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Football Season

For my husband, Football Season is the happiest season of the year.  No matter the weather, no matter the team, he is happiest if he's watching football.  And while usually, he's playing armchair quarterback, occasionally, he gets the opportunity to go see a "real game".  Two weeks ago, he was invited to go see a BYU preseason game and he jumped at the opportunity.  Never mind that we live in Southern California...lol and usually BYU is playing the team we usually root for... he made a special business trip to visit a client in Utah just so he could also attend the game.  And while he was there, he happily texted me photos of himself and the stadium so that I could scrap this memory for him.

I added the pocket to the page so that he can save his ticket in there and journal on the tags about his experience at his first "home" BYU game...it's a great way to save memorabilia without creating an element on the page with it. I fussy cut the title from the "Title Sports" paper and added pop dotted footballs inside the "o"s for a little dimension.  I chose to keep the rest of the page pretty simple because all of the patterned paper really kept the eye moving on the page.  Hope he likes the page and it is a nice reminder of his quick trip to Utah!

Backstroke

The backstroke is Lily's least favorite event in swimming,
yet she is so graceful, so powerful.

I played on the yellow of Lily's swim cap by using the yellow dotted Gymnastics paper from
the Sports and Activities line.  To create the half scallops in the same paper I used a punch
by Epiphany Crafts with the coordinating epoxy stickers and then cut them in half.

Please welcome Lynette Daniel, the newest SS&M Designer!!!

Scrappin' Sports & More is very excited to announce our newest designer to the team Lynette Daniel.  She was our first Guest Designer and we loved her work so much we couldn't wait to ask her to stay on full time.  She said YES!!!

For those of you who may not know Lynette, here is a little about our newest designer.

Lynette Daniel is a widow and has two beautiful children. She owns Scrap That Moment, Central Illinois' largest scrapbooking store. She is a talented photographer, graphic designer and has been a nationally published scrapper since 2003. Lynette has had the privilege of working with over 20 scrapbooking manufacturers and is thrilled to design for Scrappin' Sports & More. In Lynette's spare time she coaches in city programs for kids, sponsors local sports teams, and photographs and writes editorials for different IL newspapers.

Here is Lynette's debut design called "Go Long."

#1415 Football

Lynette hand drew and painted the tiger paw onto the new Sports & Activities Football paper. We love the way she worked her son Zach's team colors of grey & blue into the collage. You are not going to believe how Lynette made the flowers- it is sports athletic gauze tape! She fashioned it in and around itself and used a little distress ink to match the tough grunge background.

I am sure you will be as thrilled as we are to have her part of the SS&M family.  Her designs are fresh and very creative.

Welcome again, Lynette!!!

The Big "C"!

Yep.... literally a BIG C!  I got a giant chipboard "C" a while back.  I was going to use it for something else, but didn't receive all of the letters I needed.  So, it went into my stash destined to stay there for a good long time.  In moving my piles of stuff back and forth, the big "C" ended up on top of my box of Scrappin' Sports goodies and I decided that my son needed a new sign for his bedroom door!  And, off I went!

His favorite color is red, so I started there.  There's a perfect RED dot paper included in the new "Sports & Activities" line!  I traced the "C" on the red paper and cut it out.

Then, I adhered the paper to the C, added a ribbon to the back, and put some alphas stickers from deep within my stash along the bottom.  Then, my son's favorite part.... I used some black embroidery floss and some cardstock stickers.  I put one with the sticky side up, placed the floss down, and then put another sticker on top creating a "sticker sandwich."  That way if the sports balls spin while he is opening and closing his door, they will still look good.  Then, I adhered the floss to the back of the "C" and trimmed the ends.  Finally, I took down the old sign and hung the new one.
