Playing Catch-Up

I've been trying to catch up on all of my sports photos this fall and this is one that I absolutely had to scrap!  Over Labor Day, our 2006 softball team had a reunion.  They were one of the most fun teams, I ever had the pleasure to coach.  Every time I look at this photo I'm reminded of how much fun they had playing together during high school and how the fun continued this day as they got together on a field once again. 

Whether you are current or continually playing catch-up like I do, I hope whenever you look at your scrapbook pages they make you smile as much as this one makes me (of course, using paper from SS&M makes me smile too)!

Sweet Scarecrow!

I love this time of year -- the temps are falling, the leaves are dropping and the kids are gearing up for the harvest party at church.  I love the effort that they put into their costumes!  Luke the scarecrow - this is one of my all time favorites!

Keeping Goal!

My son is playing his first year of soccer with the town rec league (as you may be able to tell by all the soccer layouts!) and he's loving every minute of it.  He's super aggressive and wants to be where ever the ball is.  Well, every player has to do their time playing goal.  He gets excited to be playing goalie, until the game wanders down to the other end of the field.  I was watching him try to stay focused on the game and when he struck this pose, I knew just what to do with the photo!  And, I'm super lucky to have access to all of these fabulous Scrappin' Sports and More soccer papers and embellishments to play with!!

1st Day of School

We got our dog on the last day of school, so for 3 months she had the kids home everyday.  She did not know what to do with herself on the first day of school.  She went from room to room, flopping down on the floor and sighing.  Luckily now, she has learned the routine :)

Look who's on the Cover!!!

Are you ready for some football?

Gosh, that is a common question in our house in the fall.  My son has been strappin' on the pads and pullin' on the uniform every weekend in the fall since he was in 7th grade.  He's now a junior in college I can't count how many weekends we've spent in the bleachers cheering him on from those early days as he was learning to play, to his senior year in high school as the team made a run toward a state championship and now during his college career.  So to answer that question.... why YES!  We are ready for some football in this house.

Year Round Baseball

I'm so thankful for all the different paper combinations that will work for scrapping baseball pictures!  With 4 kids playing baseball and one of them on 3 different teams year round, I always have a huge stack of basball photos to scrap.  Scrappin' Sports always comes through!  Not only do they have a wide range of papers just for baseball, but a lot of the other papers are versatile enough to use too!

Take for example this layout:

Thinking Ahead!

It's October and it's time to start thinking ahead to making your Christmas cards!  Here is one that is super easy to reproduce time and time again.  I just painted a piece of white cardstock with red acrylic paint and dried it quickly with my heat gun.  Then, I used an embossing folder to emboss the snowflake pattern and then sanded the paper lightly to reveal the white snowflakes.  Then, I used Scrappin' Sports & More's December Calendars Made Easy paper to create the trees and to mat my sentiment.  Just a few tree trunks and some bling for the tree tops and, there you have it!  It's easy, it's quick and it looks great!  Have fun!

October Already??

It doesn't seem possible that it is already fall!!  The kids are now settled into school, the days are getting shorter & cooler...can only mean one thing...Halloween is coming!!!  I love this time of the year!!  I decided to mix some of the older Fall line with our new Calendar line to create the layout below.  Gotta capture these days while I can, they are growing up so fast!

SAFE!

Several years ago when my son started baseball and they spent an entire practice learning how to slide, take a lead and dive back to the base - my son felt like he hit the jackpot!

Could it be that an adult was teaching him how to slide?  Could it be that the same woman who complains about holes in the jeans during their second wear would be cheering for him to slide in the dirt?!  Could it be that the numerous practice pants and game pants never get a raised eyebrow but the jeans and athletic pants get lectures ... then the decision in a boy's 6 year old mind was made that baseball was his game!

Journaling:
I often joke that you love to slide in baseball because I cannot complain about the dirt or the holes in your pants.  It's no surprise that you have perfected your slide!  Sept 2010

Wearin' the War Paint

Football.  It's a game of toughness, physcially and mentally.  If wearing eye black like an Indian Warrior is what it takes to look fierce on the field, then I'm all for it!  As you can see, so does my son.  We call it his War Paint.

When you are looking for sports themed papers to document your little warriors on the field, I sure hope you think of SS&M first!

Embossing...

One of my favorite things to do lately is emboss!!  For this layout, I used 2 different types of embossing.  For the title, I placed some chipboard behind the cardstock and gently rubbed it with some sandpaper.  It works best if you temporarily adhere the chipboard to avoid slipping. 

The 2nd form of embossing that I used was with an embossing folder.  I wanted to mimic the tracks that the snowmobile would leave behind, so I ran the cardstock through my Sizzix using an embossing folder and again, lightly sanded the raised part. 

To add more dynamics to the page, I used torn scraps of our new sports line and popped out some bright yellow from the pictures for a little more pizzazz.  Although none of these papers were originally designed for a snow page, they worked together perfectly because Scrappin Sports & More is so versatile!!

What does Comfort mean to me?

Just like Nicole, it took me a while to decide what I would scrap using the word Comfort.  I finally settled on the one person I have chosen to spend the rest of my life with, my husband of 20 years.  Looking back over the years, he is the one I turn to over and over again.  He is my strength, my comfort, my everything.  This picture was taken a couple of weeks after we celebrated our anniversary.

This month, the Design Team has been sharing layouts using the word "Comfort" title.  It took me a little while to find direction with this challenge and then the photo and the paper just came together for me.  All my life I have worked toward bettering myself and have lived by the words, "If you are going to do it, then give it 110%."  In taking some time to reflect, I realize that I am comfortable being ME.  I am a mom to two great kids, a teacher to wonderful middleschoolers, I have surrounded myself with great friends and I get to spend my spare time doing a hobby that I love.  Even though I still have room to grow, I am comfortable with myself.

When I saw this paper from the "Young and Active Seasons" line, I knew that I wanted to find a way to pop those gorgeous butterflies off the page.  So, I cut out the butterflies from a second piece of paper and glued just the middle down right on top of the existing butterfly.  Then, I bent the wings up to give the page dimension which gabve this already beautiful paper, a beautiful effect.

Game On!!

I love the motion that the Sports Head On line brings to the page.  I cut the socccer balls out of the paper and used them to draw the eye to my main photo.  I paired it with some custom paper & the blue from the Four H paper.  It was perfect for our school colors.

AAA Tryout

After spring baseball, my son decided he wanted to play a more competitive level of baseball.  This meant that he would have to tryout and be offered a spot on a team.  He tried out for two teams this summer - one was a AAA & Tournament team and the other was a Tournament only team.  This layout is about his tryout to the AAA & Tournament team in August.

Talk about Comfort!

We have an 85 pound baby who lives at our house and he runs the show.  He has taken over my favorite chair and every morning I wake up to find him lounged out with his head on a pillow!  Cooper is my Golden Retriever and he loves to make himself at home on my furniture!

Ultimate Comfort

As you may have read earlier, this month the DT was challenged to use the word "comfort" on a layout.  Well, with a lazy beagle in the house, it wasn't hard to find pictures for this challenge!! 

I used the B side of the new Wrestling paper (#1336) and Football paper (#1324).  I then added some paw print stamps and a few embellishments and well...don't the pictures say it all?  LOL
