Laces OUT!

I saw some really fun cards on the Fiskars website a while back and it was a fun idea that I tucked into the back of my head.  I knew I could adapt it to make some fabulously simple and cute cards with Scrappin' Sports papers!

These cards are perfect for a party invitation, a thank you for the coach, or even something sweet for your football fan (I get a kick out of you....).
Here's how I made the laces....

First, cut a strip of cardstock about 1 3/8" wide.  Then, punch one side with your Notebook Edge punch (mine is from EK Success).

Then, flip the strip of paper around and punch the other side.  Try to match the notches up as best as you can.

Then, using a sharp pair of scissors, cut the "nubbies" off.
Do the same on the other side and you have perfect football laces!
Just affix them to the front of your card made with some Scrappin' Sports football papers and you have a super sweet, simple card!  Isn't it so cute?!?!

Last summer my son went fishing with his pal & his pal's dad ... my son LOVED fishing and being outside in the reservoir at the base of Pikes Peak, however my son did not care to actually eat the fish they caught!

This photo was perfect for SSM's new The Sport is ... Fishing paper!  I combined it with Sports Head On Fishing paper and On the Edge Sports - Fishing paper, these papers went together so easy!

Papa's Fishing Buddy

When my parents lived on the lake, my kids LOVED to go fishing with my dad.  I have so many photos from that time, that I am now getting around to scrapping, thanks to Scrappin' Sports & More!  I used the new Fishing/Hunting paper from the new line called "The Sport is..."  The plaid background is from the "Sports Head On" line's Fishing paper.  I cut the bobbers out from the Fishing paper in the "On the Edge Sports" line and added some baker's twine to pull it all together.  Isn't it fantastic how all of the different lines work together?!

It's THAT time of year!!

It's the time of year when we get to start sharing some peeks of our new lines coming out this winter!  This new line is VERY exciting!  It's called "The Sport is..." and there are TONS of sports and activites represented in this line!  Today, I'm going to show you the FISHING paper.  The Red, White and Blue is so easy to work with and coordinates well with Scrappin' Sports & More's other fishing papers. On the back side of the paper is a hunting design.  So fun!

Tennis Lessons

You may recognize this Becky Fleck sketch that the DT members used as inspiration a couple of weeks ago.  This sketch was perfect to capture the few photos that I had of my daughter taking her first tennis lessons.  I'm glad I was able to get these photos, as she decided maybe tennis wasn't really her thing :)  I was able to use several of the SS&M lines to create this layout.  The background is from the game day line, while the smaller patterns come from the Name of the Game, On the Edge Sports and Sports Head On lines. The stickers coordinate with the Sports on Fire line. Just one of the reasons I love SS&M papers, they can be combined to give you more options when scrappin'.

Space...the final frontier

Thought I would share a layout from our recent trip to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum.  I just can't get enough of our CUSTOM papers.  And with the new website...you will even have the ability to SEE your designs BEFORE they are printed!  Now how cool is THAT???

This was truly a fun and educational trip for us and I even got a chance to use up some of my scraps when making the paper pieced planet on the layout.  With a bunch of circles and a little ink...instant embellishment and very little cost!!  So the question is...if you were designing a custom paper...what would it be??

T-Ball Fun

My twin great-nephews are in their 2nd season playing little league T-Ball.  During their last game of the season earlier this summer I got to snap a couple of pictures of them.  It was so much fun seeing the intensity in their faces and I knew they were having so much fun.  They are both such baseball fanatics and want to play catch or hit the ball around in the backyard every free moment.  I just love these 2 little guys.

This layout is based on a sketch by Susan Stringfellow (Sketch Savvy).  As soon as I saw the sketch, I knew it would be perfect to use with SS&M's newest sports line, Sports Head On!

Thanks for looking

Baseball Baseball Baseball!

I love watching my son grow as an athlete - and I sure get a lot of time to do that with three practices and two games a week!  It seems as most of the chilly winter weather has moved out of Colorado and baseball is in full swing!

I created this layout as a recap of last year's baseball season featuring our new On the Edge Papers!  These papers are quickly becoming a favorite of mine!  I love the baseballs and all of the swirls!   The baseball stickers and rub-ons easily completele the layout!

all star journaling:
Watching you grow as an athlete is simply amazing for me.
In your second year of baseball, you were strong on both
sides of the ball! You made a lot of big plays both at catcher
and third base as well as in the outfield. Your batting was
fantastic too, you had the second highest batting average,
the most runs scored and the most runs batted in on your
team during the season! Those are some pretty great stats!!

Monthly Sketch Challenge

Welcome to our monthly sketch challenge! This is a new feature for us here at

Scrappin' Sports & More and we couldn't be more excited! Your first sketch was created with hearts with Valentine's Day just around the corner, but those embellishments can be replaced with anything! I love the flexibility of a sketch --- use it all and work from it exactly or go with the basic shape and shape it to be your own!

I hope you have a lot of fun working with it --- we would love to see what you come up with! Post a comment with a link to your creation by the end of February and we will send out a RAK to one lucky winner!

Our Design Team spent some time with the sketch too ---

Coaches vs. Cancer

Yesterday, our local high school basketball coach asked me to come out to the gym to take a team picture. The pictures I shot inspired this layout. The new "On The Edge Sports" basketball paper was a perfect choice.

Coaches vs. Cancer is something that started at the collegiate level to raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer. In Iowa, the state high school athletic agencies have encouraged local school districts to join this battle. Our student body, our school family, was dramatically touched by the ravages of this disease just last March when our long time high school principal lost his battle with brain cancer. That’s Mr. Cosens, or Cuz, as he was known around town in the upper left hand picture.

In an effort to raise money for Coaches vs. Cancer, the basketball team designed and sold these shirts.... the pink ribbon symbolizing breast cancer, the gray shirt symbolizing brain cancer. We’ll all be wearing our shirts at Friday night’s basketball game. Here's to Cuz and everyone else whose lives have been affected by this disease.

More Layouts from CHA new releases

I just love this time of the year when all the new products are hitting the market at CHA.  One of the things I like best about being on the DT is getting to work with the newest product hot off the presses!!  Below are a couple of layouts that will be in the Scrappin' Sports & More Booth 2988.  The first two layouts use the new On the Edge Sports line.  I just fell in love with the little campers & the fish paper.  The fishing paper is a perfect match for swimming paper from the Game Day line too (stripped paper).  A few circles to mimic the bubbles in the water & some wire for the finishing line and hooks and the layout practically made itself.  This is just one of the reasons I love this product, you don't need a lot of extras to make a nice looking page.

Next up is my camping layout, Smore Great Moments.  Again, I keep things pretty simple and let the wonderful new paper speak for itself.

Last up is a layout I created using the new Down on the Farm line.  My daughter loves everything about horses, so this paper was a perfect fit.  This was her first official ride on a horse, not walking in a circle at the fair.

Journaling by Peggy Nardini

I'm a journaler. I like to journal. There's an old saying, "A picture is worth 1,000 words", well I like to use 'em all! So let's talk about ways to get creative with journaling and incorporate a couple of different ideas into your next layouts.

We've all seen examples of journaling written on strips of cardstock and then adhered to the page, typically along the side of a picture. A fun variation of this style is to use the strip under a row of photos as in this example from a recent layout, "Roommates". A second row of journaling could easily be added above the row of photos if you need more room.

This second layout shows images from the NCAA Regional Championship my daughter's college softball team won last spring. I've done a number of layouts about the tournament with quite lengthy journaling, so I've already written a lot about the experience, but still have some great photos to include on my scrapbook pages. Here, I made tabs to go along the sides of the pictures, including just a few words of journaling.

This final example is a more traditional style of journaling, the journal block. The plain, simple block containing your journaling is sometimes all you need to finish off a layout. In "Alley Cats", that's what I did. But don't be afraid to step it up a bit and add an additional design element (die cuts, stickers, rub-on, etc.) to your journal block. Here I included small black circles representing bowling balls to tie all of the elements together.

On your next layout, don't be afraid to write it all down! Include those words along with your photos. Whether you computer journal or use your own handwriting, the written word is important in telling the complete story. It's even more fun when you get creative with it and use the new lines of paper Scrappin' Sports and More will be debuting at CHA later this week. All of the layouts in this article used our newest sports line On The Edge Sports. You're gonna love it.

New Releases for CHA!!!!

It's that time of the year again.  The scrapbooking industries best time of the year, the time when all the fun, new & exciting products are released at the annual CHA-Winter show in Anaheim, CA.  Scrappin' Sports & More is excited to be releasing not one, but two new lines!!!  It's a busy time for designers everywhere getting their projects ready for the booth.  Keep checking back next week as you will see some great new projects from the Design Team using these new products.  Okay...here they are....hot off the press today & ready to ship to your store :)

The first line was created by Ronnie McCray and is called On the Edge Sports.  This is an amazing new line; I mean who doesn't like those dotted swirls!!  Make sure you take a close look at the camping one...how fun is that little camper?  And the fishing paper....such a cute little blue fish :)  Okay, I'll stop writing and just let you judge for yourselves.

Pretty amazing, don't you think?  Well, that's not all.  The next line was created by Steve and is called Down on the Farm.  This line has so many uses.  For those of you involved in 4-H, you will be all set not matter what animals you brought to the fair.  Did you ever take pictures of your kids or grandkids feeding the ducks, well we have some paper & stickers for that too.  Do you have a couple of furry companions that live in your house like I do?  Well, check out the dog & cat papers & stickers.  You get the idea, so take a look for yourself.

And here are the stickers that coordinate with the Down on the Farm line.

And last but not least, we have some cardstock sports stickers being released at the show.  These coordinate perfectly with the Name of the Game line.  There are 3 different sizes on each cardstock sheet.
