I Got This!

(Close Up Included)

by Lynette Daniel, Owner of Scrap That Moment

Miss Hannah Gebhart was so serious playing Princeton Youth Soccer defense this year! She was a blast to shoot. Maybe she tried a little harder knowing I was on the sidelines just for her. ;) I loved this tongue in cheek picture it shows her determination and playfulness all wrapped up in one darling little girl. I was inspired to try something totally unique with the soccer paper, the idea was to get a mixed media look by using watercolors and paints. The trick was blending all the layers together with a chevron design. I mitered the "frame" corners to continue the motion of the page. I hand drew the title which I tried to mimmick a font called "Bring The Noize" that seems to have an attitude to match. Thanks for looking and appreciate your comments!

Kick

I know I have said it before but I really love how easy it is to mix and match all of the Scrappin' Sports & More papers.  On this layout I used 6 different papers and 1 set of cardstock stickers.  I love the look of the chevron with the stars and the colors were perfectly matched to my daughters soccer colors.

I have done so many soccer layouts over the past 12 years and I love how Scrappin' Sports & More papers keeps them looking fresh and new!

Here is what I came up with....

Scrappin' Sports & More Product Used:
#1431 Sports & Activities - Wrestling (red chevron)
#1395 Girls Rule - Tennis (yellow)
#1384 Title Sports - Wrestling (background grey stars)
#1379 Title Sports - Soccer (both green papers)
#1349 The Sport Is - Soccer (soccer balls)
#5541 Name of the Game - Soccer (soccer balls cardstock stickers)

Thanks for stopping by!  Having a wonderful week.

You've Been Served!

I added 2 projects to the blog today because one was done in the summer. I needed to use the leftover fresh flowers from designing St Bede Academy Homecoming bouquets for Adam Schweickert & Leo Lopez, they were big hits for their dates, lol. I decided to do a "follow up" from the martini glass and tennis tag from my Guest Design Team Debut using matching ribbons. This time, I covered a paper mache` wine decanter/carrier with The Sport Is.. tennis paper (both sides) and designed a lovely corsage down the side of the box. it's held on by a ribbon so the recipient can use the tennis themed carrier again and again!

Merry Mermaid by Lynette Daniel

Last year I did a very special photo shoot with stunning Meghan Ryan. I had gone to a thrift store and bought her a beautiful sapphire full length gown and literally threw her in the indoor pool at the park district making her the most gorgeous real life mermaid. I did her makeup with an angelic glow keeping it natural with silvery highlights and smokey eyes. I think she was even shocked to see the timeless beauty (she never wears makeup!). So back in mid July 2012, I made this Scrappin Sports & More layout for Scrap That Moment and wrote an article for a prom promotion calling it~ "Make A Splash This Prom." A few designers and customers have seen this previously and have been inspired, but this layout was never launched nationally since it was being saved for a major publication. Now that they have chosen another layout to be published, I can show off the original. Shockingly, I only used 1 piece of swimming paper and 2 pieces of WorldWin cardstock (both papers double sided). My signature style elements are hand drawing the title "Splash" (mocking a Scriptina font) with a simple black marker and added Stickles over it.. Next, I used my favorite metallic US Artquest & Prang watercolours on the background, photos, and subtitles.  The flower embellishments are made from the swimming paper with a touch of shimmer. Enjoy~!

I Feel Like A Pro!

Hey Football Fans! It's Lynette Daniel the newest Design Team Member and since we are in the "throws" of the fall season and I wanted to make a bold graphic statement to replicate my son Zach's cool wide receiver gloves. When his hands are together it spells NIKE. To make this monochromatic layout, I started with a textured piece of white cardstock and hand painted the black burst. Then cut a neutral overlay of medium gray cardstock for the spiked effect. Next, I hand cut the PRO title with an Excel Hobby Blade and used black Stickles to make it shine. The clear football shape is hard to see in the scan but I hand cut the P logo for the Princeton Tigers and glued it on the helmet. Please give me your feedback on how you are "receiving" my new designs!

What Is This Feeling?

In our family music is a source of happiness!  Quite often silence is not heard in our house because music is being played on the iPod, or Scott playing Bass, or one of us belting out a song just because we feel like it at that moment.

Lily is the singer in our family (I pretend sometimes).  She loves Broadway tunes and has an affinity for the musical "Wicked."  This past spring she performed "What Is This Feeling?" from "Wicked" with her girlfriend at A.D.A.M. They were pretty good for their first live performance together!

Due to the lighting at this venue getting a good picture was difficult, but I still wanted to document this event for Lily.  I focused on using a great color in the background to pull the viewer in. This is why I chose the kelly green dotted paper.  It is the backside of the new Golf paper (#1416) found in the "Sports and Activities" line.  Isn't it so bold and fun?

To create the hexagons, I cut the Dance paper (#1341) from "The Sport Is..." using my Sizzix 2" Hexagon die cut.  The pictures and hexagons are bordered with plain black cardstock to make them pop just a little bit.

I hope you find some time for a bit of music in your life today!

I hope you dance...

I hope it's not too cliche to use this song title for yet another ballet scrapbook page...

I love the meaning behind the words...as well as the obvious statement it makes, and this photo of my daughter was so fitting, especially in her pointe shoes...Last year she was forced to choose between cheer and pointe class...so she went to the director of the dance studio to ask her what other options she had and they allowed her to take a lower level of dance class, completely on pointe (a full 1/2 hour longer than her regular class and all floor work)..this was so NOT easy for her, but she was totally commited and stuck to it and in the end was so much more advanced for all her efforts.  I am so proud of her for making the choice to NOT sit it out...

Final Season

These pictures were taken during Madalyn's final season playing in Findlay.  We are in the process of moving to North Carolina, so I wanted to make sure I captured a couple of photos from here last season playing in Ohio.  I'm happy to say it's not the end of her soccer career, just changing teams.

I love the new trend using hexagons, so I decided to create a layout using some of my favorite papers.  I love that this layout can be created completely from leftover paper from other projects.  Next time though I need to invest in the Sizzix die to make it easier :)

Meet our Wonderful Guest Designer for July, Suzanna Lee

I am very exicted to share with you today a layout created by our fantastic July guest designer Suzanna Lee.  Let's get to know Suzanna a little bit better first!

Hey! I am Suzanna Lee, wife to Michael and Mummy to Nikolas and Mia. These 3 are not only my life but the subjects all things crafty. Scrapbooking is not only my creative outlet but a means to preserving my insanity (and memories)! Equally important to me is the photography. I spend as much time with my Nikon as I do at my scrappy desk. When not with my family or scrapbooking, I work part time as a Physical Therapist. Somebody has to support this addiction! LOL!! I am honored to be the guest designer  here at Scrappin' Sports and More this month and can't wait to share my work with you! More of my work can be found on my blog http://www.lifestrivialities.typepad.com/

And now, it's time to reveal a layout created by Suzanna that I'm sure you will enjoy!  With the 4th of July just a couple of days, I thought I would share her patriotic baseball layout first!  I love how she mixed so many Scrappin' Sports lines to created this layout!

Here is a close up of her title work!
Make sure you check back with us later this month to see more wonderful designs by Suzanna!

On deck layout

I have another baseball layout to share! :)  We just spent the weekend in Steamboat Springs, CO at a pretty big baseball tournament - it's so much fun to go up there to play and lots of team bonding going on!  I am torn with love and hate when my son is on deck with two outs, but I love when he is on deck with his catchers gear on, so naturally I had to snap some pics of it this weekend!

It's Volleyball Time!!

Our guest designer Julie Rainbolt has done an amazing job creating not one, but two fabulous volleyball layouts that we get to share with you today!  I LOVE how she used the volleyball paper and the blue stars to create the award ribbon!  It adds such dimension.  Her titles just jump off the page and is a perfect way to display the team picture.

And here is her second layout.  I love how the large volleyball sticker peaks out behind the photo.  All the layers on this layout create great dimension. By cutting out the "Volleyball" title from the paper she has created a wonderful title that jumps off the page.

Just One of The Guys

Hey there, everyone!  I hope you are enjoying a beautiful summer day!

For today's project, I was determined to use a photo that I'd already printed and just "had" to scrap, but hadn't got to it yet.  I found the perfect one that was just begging for some SS&M papers to go with!

Unfortunately, my son was not able to play Little League, so we were on the lookout for an opportunity for him to continue his love and participation in baseball.  And, the perfect opportunity presented itself when Colby was able to be the Bat Boy for the 7th Grade baseball team at the school that I teach at.  The boys had been playing together since they were Colby's age, but took him in as though he'd been on the team all along.  In the first practice that Colby went to, they boys were introduced to him and then started running laps.  As they ran off, one of them turned around and said, Colby, are you coming?!"  And, that's how it started!

The season continued and they taught him everything we need to know to be a part of the team-- what to do a bat boy, how (and when) to cheer for his teammates and, most importantly, how to spit sunflower seeds!  I was so proud of my son AND my students for being a great team!

Enough yapping..... here's my layout!  It's simple, because I wanted to focus to be on this fabulous picture of Colby on the bench with his team.

And, here's a close up:
(you may notice that there's no black line in the close up... I decided to add it after I took the first round of photos... it just needed "something else" and I forgot to take a closeup shot!)

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope you were inspired!

Hey Batter by Julie

I know many of my friends are right in the middle of baseball season, so I am very happy to showcase this wonderful layout created by our June guest designer Julie Rainbolt.  Julie has a very distinct style and loves to outline her papers and embellishments with black cardstock.  I think on this layout it really makes the individual papers stand out.  Look at that adorable smile :)

6-3-12 Playlist

Our daily life is full of music. Not a day goes by that the house isn't full of our favorite songs whether it be in our cars or in the house.  My husband, Scott, is even known to still play his favorite 80's records on the weekends.  This weekend I thought it would be fun to document what we were listening to that day.

Scrappin' Sports & More has several lines that include music papers.  I pulled out two of the lines to work on this layout, "The Sport Is..."(#1346) and "Girls Rule" (#1404).

The big curves with music notes is a SS&M Supersized Cardstock Sticker (#5569). I have been waiting for just the right project to use this!  I cut pieces of the sticker off (initially it was round) and mounted the cut pieces on black cardstock.  Doing this made them stand out on my page.

What are you listening to today?

A Dose of Humility

Let's be honest-- we love to see our kids walk away with the gold.  I'm no different- I love to see my kids succeed at what they love.  But, in this case, I think that my son's losing what the best thing that could have happened.  He's been lucky that sports have come easy to him.  He easily won his age division of the soccer shoot out.  Then came regionals...  We tried to get him to practice, but he thought he had it nailed.  Even during the wait before the event started, he didn't practice (although he was being a nice guy and retrieving balls for other boys who were practicing.).

When it came time for his turn, he missed once and then again, and again.  It was hard to watch him lose, but it opened up a conversation about working hard to succeed. I hope that he will take this "dose of humility" and use it as an inspiration to work hard and do even better next year!  Win or lose, I'll always be his #1 fan!

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you were inspired!

There is no off Season

It's seems with most sports there is really no off season.  In soccer we play all year long.  Maddy did a great job playing indoor this year; even scored a goal, which is pretty good for a defender!  I used the super-sized soccer ball as the background for my main picture.
