2 Great Baseball Layouts by Guest Designer Lana Day!

I am excited to share 2 wonderful baseball layouts created by this months guest designer Lana Day.  I love how she cut up the baseball paper to use as her accents.  The red white and blue stripes are a perfect backdrop for these pictures.

I love how she cut up the paper on this layout to add some fun movement to the page.

2 Layouts Today!

I created two layouts using my inspiration paper, the back of The Girls Rule Tennis Paper (Yellow Circles) with similar accent papers that have two very distinct looks.  I challenged myself to use some of the scraps on my table after completing the Biker Girl layout to create another 12 by 12 layout.  I am really happy with how they both came out.  I dug out some pictures from 2003 and got to reminisce a little while I scraped :)

And here is the second layout. It's a little hard to see the edge of the white background paper but there is an half an inch outside the words.  My poor little man had a bad ear infection and fever and just crashed on the couch.  His face is beet red from the heat of the fever :(

PageMaps FUN!!

I feel so fortunate that we got to be a part of the awesomeness that is PageMaps!!  I LOVE the sketch that Becky gave me to work with and I look forward to using it over and over!!  Be sure to check out all of the November PageMaps (including this one)!  They are amazing to work with!

I decided to do the photo of my son wearing his Rally Cap at the Portland Sea-Dogs game.  He was there with the team that he was the bat-boy for (all 7th graders) and had a blast just being "one of the guys."  Unfortunately the team got absolutely creamed!  But, he did is part to cheer them on by putting on his Rally Cap and getting the rest of the boys to do the same!

Sorry Mom....

This week we get to share the fabulous sketch at Sketch Inspiration!  Scrappin' Sports is giving away a FABULOUS prize package of papers and stickers, so get on over here and post your take on the sketch!

We had a new addition to our family in August...Duffy the Goldendoodle.  He's about the sweetest, most mellow puppy I've ever seen.  He's only a little naughty, but that's a part of his charm!  I love taking photos of him although he usually tries to chew on my camera strap during our "photo sessions" so the photos aren't always the best.  This photo is a bit of an "out-take" but it truly made me laugh out loud when I saw it.  What are the chances of getting this shot again?  I can just pictue him saying, "Sorry, Mom!  I think I blinked!"

**I created the camera using just a corner rounder, some circle punches and som foam tape for dimension!  Isn't it CUTE?!

Tales from Fourth Grade....

I can't believe that Elizabeth is already in Fourth Grade.  When it was time to get her school pictures done, she really wanted to have a purple background for her photos.  She even wore a white shirt so that she wouldn't have to worry about matching their shade.  I was super excited because the Fourth Grade paper from the School Is Cool collection is purple and it was going to be perfect!

I really like to have Elizabeth do her own journaling on her school layouts.  She likes to write the important info about the year, as well as what she's into right now.

#1357: First Grade (green)
#1359: Third Grade/Fourth Grade (yellow/purple)

She shoots....SCORE!!

After sitting on the sidelines for three years watching Colby play soccer, Elizabeth decided to give it a try. And, she scored her first goal in only her second game! She was so excited (and shocked)! I love her smile as she ran over for her congratulatory hug!

Of course, there's nothing better to scrap this momentous occasion, than Scrappin' Sports & More papers! I used mostly the soccer paper from the "Title Sports" collection, but also a strip of soccer balls from the "The Sport Is...." collection. I was pretty excited to figure out that I could use the SOCCER title but cutting it out, re-arranging the letters and leaving out a C to spell SCORE! Love it!

First Grade

I feel like I am really accomplishing something with this new line of school papers!  I am finally able to make a cohesive looking album of all of my kids' school photos and and adventures!  And, they look fabulous!  I'm having so much fun with the bright colors and fun patterns that this line has to offer.

Here, I scrapped my son's first grade school photo (isn't he cute?!).  I used some of the Preschool paper as a background and had fun cutting up the "B" side of the First Grade paper to make journaling prompts about his year at school.  I put the photo and journaling on the black cardstock to give it a look of a chalkboard (even though there's not a chalkboard to be found at his school!).

Papa's Fishing Buddy

When my parents lived on the lake, my kids LOVED to go fishing with my dad.  I have so many photos from that time, that I am now getting around to scrapping, thanks to Scrappin' Sports & More!  I used the new Fishing/Hunting paper from the new line called "The Sport is..."  The plaid background is from the "Sports Head On" line's Fishing paper.  I cut the bobbers out from the Fishing paper in the "On the Edge Sports" line and added some baker's twine to pull it all together.  Isn't it fantastic how all of the different lines work together?!

You make me so proud!

I have been so proud of my son this year.  He has tried 2 sports that are totally new to him, cross country and basketball.  Cross country for a sprinter is a big undertaking, but he stuck with it and had some really good times.  While he may not have the best shot yet in basketball, he is tall and has done a wonderful job rebounding.  Of course, Scrappin Sports & More new papers were perfect to capture both of these sports.

I've Got Sunshine....

June 2009 was the wettest month I have ever lived through! We spent the first three weeks of summer vacation looking out the window at the rain and wishing we could go out and play. One day, I gave the kids the OK to put on their ponchos and go out and play in the rain! They splashed and sloshed and laughed and played until they were soaked through and had a BLAST! Mother Nature might have made it wet and soggy outside, but we weren't going to let it dampen our spirits!

I got this wonderful photo of my kids that day, and I have been waiting for just the right opportunity to scrap it. Scrappin' Sports & More's August Calendar paper is PERFECT for this layout! Check out the super cute SUNS on the background paper!

Title Trouble?

With seven kids and tons of sports photos -- I am always on the lookout for a new and creative title for my layouts.  I found that I was reusing titles for my sports pages --- most frequently -"SCORE" - "PLAY BALL" - "TIME TO PLAY" - you get the idea!

So I decided I needed a change and that my sports layouts needed a bit of creative title work so I went on an internet search!

These are some of my favorite sites for sports quotes:

http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/topics/topic_sports.html - The Brainy Quote with a search for SPORTS. This is where I found the title for my page today --- it's a quote for sports legend Vince Lombardi.

http://www.simplysentiments.com/sentiments/index.php?cat=89 - Simple Sentiments with a search for SPORTS.

http://www.scrapbook.com/titles/cat/38.html - Scrapbook.com titles with a search for SPORTS.

http://www.scrapbook.com/quotes/cat/38.html - Scrapbook.com quotes with a search for SPORTS.

Bookmark these great sites and never be lost for words again!

Day 3 of Project 12

As promised, today is Carolyn's take of the January Project 12 sketch sponsored by Scrapbook & Cards Today.

Journaling:
January 2010
brought us warmer temps without any snow! We spent a lot of time with Seth's basketball; I started exercising six days a week again; Seth received a buzz cut because the gal at Floyd's didn't listen to Rick; Rick & I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary; Rick & Seth shot their BB guns; we played lots of games, puzzles and of course with Legos! January was a nice calm month - a great way to start 2010!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I don't normally scrap too many pages with me and my husband, but being Valentines Day it seemed wrong not to celebrate our love.  This picture was taken on a date night with some friends last summer.  Hard to believe we celebrated our 19th anniversary.

So, what Scrappin' Sports goodies did I use for my Valentine's layout, the Steer & Pig paper from Down on the Farm of course!!  I just love the red and the pink combination.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this week with the Design Team.  Don't forget about your chance to win the layout posted by Kim this past Wednesday.  We will have Random Org pick a winner on Sunday.   On Monday, check out the blog for the newest sketch from My Sketch World and the design team take on the sketch.  You won't be disappointed.

Valentine's Day Giveaway!!

I love to celebrate Valentine's Day year round in my layouts. I am always on the lookout for ways to incorporate hearts into my designs. When the idea popped into my head to make a patchwork heart, I knew I needed to give it a try!

I gathered all the papers from my stash that had red/pinks in them. The beauty of the papers from Scrappin' Sports & More is that they all coordinate so nicely together! For this project, I used:

Baseball Game Paper - #1237
Wrestling game Paper - #1254
Steer Paper - #1299
Pigs Paper - #1230
Defining Recital Paper - #1172

Then you want to cut your paper in strips --- I made mine wavy strips, but straight strips work great too!

Next you want to glue your strips randomly on a piece of 12 x 12 paper.

Next cut your newly made piece of paper into strips again --- straight cutter only --- making sure to cut them perpendicular to the strips that you glued down.

Next cut a heart shape out of another piece of scrap paper. Glue down your strips moving them randomly up and down so that they do not line up with any adjoining strips.

Now turn over your shape and trim the overages along the edge of your heart shape.

Then finish your design! To finish off mine, I added a dark background (#1043 - Defining Tae-Kwon-Do) and a photo mat (#1045 - Defining Volleyball).

There are no pictures! Can you guess why?

Scrappin' Sports and More is now on Facebook and we want you to become a fan! Everyone who becomes out fan on Facebook and/or signs up as a Follower on our blog here will be put in a random drawing to win the above layout. Sign up for both and have two chances to win this completed layout all ready for you to add a picture of the love of your life!

We will draw the winner on Valentine's Day evening, the 14th! What do you have to lose?

What does love mean to you?

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Show the people you love what they mean to you. Our Family And More line of papers will work perfectly with any project you do about those we hold most dear.

#1278 Family-Generation 12 x 12 paper

Using your patterned paper as embellishments....

A fun and easy way to add your unique touches to your layouts or cards is to cut the patterns out of your scrapbook papers and use those pieces as embellishments rather than leaving it as part of the patterned paper.

In my layout ‘first football uniform’ I cut the football from Scrappin’ Sports & More’s Football Reflection paper, distressed the edges a little bit and adhered it to my layout then die cut my letters for my title from the black paper left over. This allows me to show off more of the football in my layout than had I used the Football Reflections paper as a background paper.

You can also cut images from patterned paper and use it in place of an embellishment as I did here on my “8 second ride” layout. I wanted to add a little something with the photos and a cut out steer from Scrappin’ Sports & More’s new Steers paper worked perfectly.

Your cut out images do not have to be perfect, I think imperfection gives it more of a personal touch … or maybe I just say that to make myself feel better for not being able to cut perfectly! J Start with easier shapes such as a large football then work your way down to smaller more detailed shapes such as the steer. Have fun!

No turning back...

One of the things I love most about Scrappin Sports and More papers are that they are 2-sided! Sometimes the back has another image, and sometimes the back is mostly one color. At times I take some very busy pictures and need a more subtle paper to match. Scrappin Sports and More has me covered!! Not only are the backs perfect for a more subtle look, the different lines coordinate perfectly with each other. For this layout, I used papers from the Family and More Line and the Young and Active line. Because the papers were mostly one color, I could even die cut my letters for my title to achieve a perfect match.
