Project 12, December
We started out the year with the challenge to do the Project 12 monthly layouts sponsored by Scrapbooking and Cards Today. I'm pleased to say the I have now completed the December sketch and am even happier to be able to share it with all of our blog readers.
These are photos of my family on my husband's side taken at our annual family Christmas. We got together for brunch at an old hotel that has been recently restored. Let me be the first to say this place is beautiful. Can you believe it even has a 2 lane bowling alley in it? To say the little kids were in heaven would be an understatement.
Thanks for looking. I hope you all were closed out 2010 surrounded by people you love and may 2011 bring great joy and blessings your way.

Unwrapping Gifts
Here's my take on the sketch on this month's sketch.
I love that this sketch has such clean lines. I loved being able to use a variety of papers. I love incorporating journaling strips (I came to this conclusion while putting this layout together - you may be seeing this technique utilized a lot more in the future). I love how this layout came together. I hope you like it too.

I knew this sketch would be perfect for pairing together the December calendar paper along with some custom varied spirit names paper with December printed in red and green! A wonderful combination for holiday photos.

Let it SNOW!!
Here in Maine, we finally got our first snowstorm of the winter! We had barely had enough to call it a "white Christmas." Then, only a few days after Christmas, 16 inches of white stuff fell overnight! My kids are having a great time in it, and it's put me in the mood for snow. Give me a week or two, and I'll be begging for warm sand and palm trees, but for now, I'm embracing the cozy feeling of being snowed in.
I used the January Calendars Made Easy Papers and created this snow banner. The photo doesn't do it justice- it came out SO cute! I cut the big snowflakes on my cricut, using the January paper and then went to town adding more snowflakes!
Here is the paper that I used for the background snowflakes that inspired the whole project:
Where ever you are I hope that you are warm and cozy today!

Christmas Traditions
With Christmas right around the corner, I decided to focus my layout on one of the traditions we have as a family. My husband Mark grew up in England, so we make sure we have Christmas Crackers every year. In fact, I thought about skipping it this year, but my 14 year old daughter told me I wasn't allowed :) One of the challenges this month was to only use one line. Not only did I only use one line, I only used one paper from the Calendar Line. I first created an 8 1/2 by 11 layout, inked the edges and then applied it to my 12 x 12 sheet of paper.
Wishing you and your family a safe, healthy and happy Christmas.

Just Dance!
My daughter has been dancing since she was 3 years old. We were talking the other night amongst the moms at dance class about how different they all looked when they started and about all of the different costumes that they have had throughought the years. Just for old time's sake, I pulled out her dance pictures from the past few years and realized that the "wallet" sized photos would work perfectly on the Becky Fleck sketch that we are playing with this momth! I made a a few changes to make it work, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out!

December Sketch Fun!
Ahh...the middle of December and life is crazy busy with planning for the coming holiday! My mind seems to wander constantly during these busy times, always thinking of another thing before even finishing my current project! So, when we decided to play with a sketch this month, I was thrilled! Nothing keeps me on task like working from a sketch! Even if I have to walk away from creating for a few minutes, a few hours, or even a few days, I can get right back on track just by looking at my sketch! I love the help it gives me!
An this month's sketch is fantastic! It comes courtesy of Becky Fleck and Page Maps! You can find so many wonderful sketches to inspire you on her blog! Make sure to head on over and check them out!

Begging Burros
One of our favorite stops on our South Dakota road trip was in Custer State Park to see the Begging Burros! If we would have had more food for them we would have stayed all day - but they quickly ate the two loaves of bread we brought for them and a box of graham crakers! At one point we had eight burros around our car! The white one at my window would nibble on my coat if I didn't feed him fast enough!

Using up those scraps...
and scrapping really fast!!
With the holiday season upon us, there are so many things to do that I find my scrappy time being sparse. That is why I try to take short cuts and get in a little scrapping when I can. For this layout, I down into my stash of scraps and made a bunch of die cut trees in various shades of green. I never realized how MANY shades of green there were! Add a title and a little rub-on "journaling" and BAM! one holiday page done!!
I also got to take a pretty good chunk out of my stash of scraps!! DOUBLE SCORE!!! So what are some of your shortcuts? How do you use your stash??
Happy Holidays!!

True Love
I really love this picture of my parents. They are still so much in love after 49 years of marriage. I am so lucky to have such inspiration! This picture was taken last Christmas Eve. They have been driving to our house on Christmas Eve so they can see the tree and house all decorated for Christmas. My daughter has already asked if they are coming again this year :) I love them so much and I am so grateful for all the time were have spent together.

The Avenue of Trees
This year our community held a fundraiser during it's annual winter festival, The Avenue of Trees. A dozen trees, each decorated by a different person or local business. The organizers talked me into decorating one of these little 3-ft. trees. As a school employee, I decided to decorate it in our school colors and use a school theme. Well, it turned out to be the BIG WINNER of the evening bringing in $230 in the auction. What a fun night!

Good Form
The art of bowling --- I've never figured it out. I bowl different every time I step on the lanes. I have a great time, but form and skill have nothing to do with it! My son, Luke, on the other hand, he is all about how he looks when he bowls. He has perfect form! He works hard to perfect his release and follow through. He is determined to do it right!

Our Great Dane recently turned ten years old so I wanted to create a layout celebrating her birthday. My 9-year old son took this fantastic photo of her and I combined Scrappin' Sports & More's fun papers and stickers from two of their new lines: Down on the Farm & Calendars Made Easy.

Playing with Paint!
The joy of a empty paper towel or toilet paper tube! I know, sounds strange, right? But anyone who loves art knows the magic that can be found in them as a art supply! Even as a scrapbooker, I love to play with them! For this layout, I used my empty tube as a paint applicator!
I love to play with paint - almost anything around the house can be turned into an art supply. Some other fun things to use with paint are:
legos
old toothbrushes
string
straws
marbles

Lots of photos...
Do you ever go on a field trip or vacation and have a ton of pictures that you want to scrap? For my daughter's field trip, I had a bunch and I just didn't want to narrow it down any further, so I went old school and added them all!!
Scrappin Sports & More has an AWESOME Down on the Farm line of papers that are perfect for those heritage or "back in time" kinds of pictures. The field trip was of Souder Village, which takes place in the early 1900s.
