Project 12 - February!

My goal with my Project 12 layouts this year is to focus on the month as a whole -- about what that month in general means to me. For January it was a special event, CHA, that I attend every January and look forward to all year. For February, it's more about the month in general -- the end of the long Winter season. Living in the Pacific Northwest, the months of January & February can be pretty dreary! So, I am always on the lookout for little things to brighten my day and bring a smile to my face. One thing that always does that for me is a trip to Starbucks for a Cinnamon Dulce Latte! Then I bring it home and pour it into one of my cute mugs and I have instant happiness! Funny how the little things in life can help you get through a long, dreary winter!

Here is areminder of what the February Project 12 Sketch looks like from over at Scrapbook & Cards Today.

Project 12 February Sketch

Yes...it's that time again!! The Scrappin Sports and More team has completed another month of Becky Fleck's wonderful Project 12 Sketches!! Here is Shannon's take on it this month. Rather than staying with the traditional reds and pinks, Shannon added a touch of tan to bring out the elements of her pictures.  And guess what?  The papers used on this page are SPORTS themed!  Gotta love the versatility of our papers!!

Last Day of March Madness

It took me a long time to decide what March Madness meant to me.  It is the one month from fall until summer that we are not slammed with sports.  We still have basketball and indoor soccer and track starts at the end of the month, but it's not crazy busy with sports.  So, since I have more time at home during March, I get ready for Spring.  Yes, you guessed it, cleaning.  While I was cleaning my son's room, I decided to take a picture of his diverse task in reading.  Then I decided I should capture his entire space at age eleven and the result is the 2 page spread you see below.

#1271 Brother from the Family Line
#1240 Cheerleading Game from the Game Day line

More March Madness!

March Madness only means one thing at our house --- the start of Baseball Season! We are so excited this year for the season to get underway - we have new milestones in our house! My youngest is starting in Farm Level this year which means he will get to hit pitching from kids his own age. My middle son is starting his Junior Level and that means "real" baseball with 90 foot bases and metal cleats. My next son has a couple new things happening this year. He not only is playing his first year on a select team but he made the JV team at the local High School and those are some intense training sessons. All in all, we are in for some fabulous baseball over the next 5 months!

My March Madness layout is another layout documenting all the fun years of baseball that we have had around here!

For Love of the Game

Bracket-ology, Diaper Dandies, conference tournaments and the NCAA basketball tournament all come to mind when sports fans think of March Madness. In our house we too think of the NCAA and tournament play but we are thinking more about the start of the college softball season. The season kicks off for our daughter and her teammates on Saturday.

This spring's pre-sason ratings have the team ranked 5th nationally. There are some big expectations on these kids. They are anxious to get started chasing after that D-III National title. The kids on this team truely are student-athletes. They don't receive athletic scholarships. They play

March Madness

What does March Madness mean for me - I sure did a lot of thinking on this topic ... the obvious reply is basketball but I don't really follow any basketball and my son's basketball season ended in February ... March is definitely does not symbolize spring for us since I think it's our snowiest month! lol!! But usually baseball starts for my son in March ... so that brings me to my layout "it's baseball season". Although this year they had three practices in February, they don't start a regular three times a week practices until March. Hopefully we won't have a long cold late winter and we can enjoy the baseball practices, because I love to watch the boys develop their skills!

This layout was a lot of fun mixing the papers, stickers and rub-ons! I also want to add, that I LOVE LOVE LOVE Scrappin' Sports & More's rub-ons! They go on as smooth as butter! I had actually quit using rub-ons for a while out of frustration of non-working rub-ons ... but now I reach for Scrappin' Sports & More's rub-ons FIRST and make sure I work them in on my layouts!!

Who's ready for March Madness week on the Scrappin Sports and More Blog!

Up first, Shannon Blinn.....
Not many basketball players in March for us, but it is tournament time for my son, Logan. How lucky am I that Scrappin Sports and More carries Karate paper and rubons to help me scrap the many pictures I take of my little guy in full fighting mode! Add some awesome paper from the Family and More collection (one of my favorite collections) and that's a layout with KICK! Hi-yah!!!

Themed Papers

You can quickly and easily create a layout by using themed papers. Here I only used three double-sided papers to create a layout with many layers. I cut out the elements that I wanted to highlight such as the title, the flags and the red, yellow & green stripe then I used larger parts of the patterned papers such as the flag pattern and the definition. I added some die cut letters, three brads and a journaling tag ... this was a very fast and easy layout to create with minimal supplies.

brought us warmer temps without any snow! We spent a lot of time with Seth's basketball; I started exercising six days a week again; Seth received a buzz cut because the gal at Floyd's didn't listen to Rick; Rick & I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary; Rick & Seth shot their BB guns; we played lots of games, puzzles and of course with Legos! January was a nice calm month - a great way to start 2010!

Day 2 of the Project 12 Posts

As mentioned yesterday, we are all participating in the Project 12 challenge at Scrapbook & Cards Today blog.  Today, Kim Holmes took the sketch in a bit of a different way and used only the left hand side of the sketch. She chose to use the sketch to highlight her most recent trip to CHA this past January.

Again, here is the sketch provided by Becky Fleck.

Here is Kim's take on the sketch.

Journaling Reads:

Project 12 Layout Week at Scrappin' Sports & More

The Design Team decided that they would like to participate in the Project 12 challenge at the Scrapbook & Cards Today blog.  The idea behind Project 12 is to create a layout on a monthly basis which recaps what you’ve been doing. Whether you took 31 photos, no photos, or 100 photos, simply choose your favorites that best described what you were doing that month, and create a layout. And the best part, the sketch is provided for you each month.  Here is the January sketch created by Becky Fleck

Here is Peggy's take on the sketch.

Product Used:

Make sure you stop by each day this week to see what the rest of the Design Team came up with for this wonderful challenge.  If you want to participate, just stop by the Scrapbook & Cards Today blog and click on the Project 12 icon.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I don't normally scrap too many pages with me and my husband, but being Valentines Day it seemed wrong not to celebrate our love.  This picture was taken on a date night with some friends last summer.  Hard to believe we celebrated our 19th anniversary.

So, what Scrappin' Sports goodies did I use for my Valentine's layout, the Steer & Pig paper from Down on the Farm of course!!  I just love the red and the pink combination.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this week with the Design Team.  Don't forget about your chance to win the layout posted by Kim this past Wednesday.  We will have Random Org pick a winner on Sunday.   On Monday, check out the blog for the newest sketch from My Sketch World and the design team take on the sketch.  You won't be disappointed.

Valentine's Day Giveaway!!

I love to celebrate Valentine's Day year round in my layouts. I am always on the lookout for ways to incorporate hearts into my designs. When the idea popped into my head to make a patchwork heart, I knew I needed to give it a try!

I gathered all the papers from my stash that had red/pinks in them. The beauty of the papers from Scrappin' Sports & More is that they all coordinate so nicely together! For this project, I used:

Baseball Game Paper - #1237
Wrestling game Paper - #1254
Steer Paper - #1299
Pigs Paper - #1230
Defining Recital Paper - #1172

Then you want to cut your paper in strips --- I made mine wavy strips, but straight strips work great too!

Next you want to glue your strips randomly on a piece of 12 x 12 paper.

Next cut your newly made piece of paper into strips again --- straight cutter only --- making sure to cut them perpendicular to the strips that you glued down.

Next cut a heart shape out of another piece of scrap paper. Glue down your strips moving them randomly up and down so that they do not line up with any adjoining strips.

Now turn over your shape and trim the overages along the edge of your heart shape.

Then finish your design! To finish off mine, I added a dark background (#1043 - Defining Tae-Kwon-Do) and a photo mat (#1045 - Defining Volleyball).

There are no pictures! Can you guess why?

Scrappin' Sports and More is now on Facebook and we want you to become a fan! Everyone who becomes out fan on Facebook and/or signs up as a Follower on our blog here will be put in a random drawing to win the above layout. Sign up for both and have two chances to win this completed layout all ready for you to add a picture of the love of your life!

We will draw the winner on Valentine's Day evening, the 14th! What do you have to lose?
