Home Sweet Home!

When I saw the new "The Sport Is...." line of papers, there was one paper in particular that popped out at me.  The "Homecoming" paper is beatiful black with white script and a lovely font on the back that says "prom."  It was, of course, intended to scrap the high school dances, but when I saw the Homecoming paper, it meant something else.  There is a very special family that I know who was missing one family member from April until November of 2010.  The father of three, and wonderful husband, of this family was stationed in Saudi Arabia during that time with the Maine Air National Guard.  In November, his family was so excited to greet him at the airport to welcome him home.  So, to honor this incredible military family, and ALL military families, I created this layout about his "Homecoming."  Welcome home, Mike!

Another Sneak Peak!

Super-sized cardstock stickers!  Yep, that's what I'm talkin' about.  SS&M will be debuting their newest over-sized embellishment at CHA this coming week - 10 super-sized ball stickers!  I love these.  I could use them on every sports layout I do for the rest of my life and never grow tired of them.  They are the perfect size for layering with a photo, your journaling or your page title.  They just look fantastic. In the following examples, I've used the golf ball super-sized sticker and (for all you music lovers out there..) I've also used the music super-sized sticker!  I hope you give these a try.  I know you'll love them and be as excited about them as I am.

Happy Birthday Toby

Our family dog recently celebrated his 16th birthday!  I will have to admit parenting a teenage dog is a lot like parenting teenage children. Both want to be independent, but both still need their mama!  Today I'm sharing a few photos taken of Toby this fall.

When SS&M first came out with their Down on the Farm line last year I knew this dog paper would be getting a lot of use in my house.  With it's brown and cream tones and the coordinating solid on the back side and the coordinating stickers... well, perfect for Toby pictures!

Thanks for looking.

Getting Ready!

Oh my, Scrappin' Sports and More has some amazing new papers coming out at Winter CHA --- I can't wait to get them in my hot little hands and start working with them!  You are going to love them!  I'm planning my next couple of posts using the new lines, so you will all have some fun sneak peaks really soon! I know that once they arrive, I won't have time to make my Valentine's Day cards, so I thought I would get a head start on them while I'm waiting!

There is such a big variety of pinks and reds in the Scrappin' Sports & More paper lines, that they make creating Valentine's super easy!

I love how the Baby Girl paper has the sweet monochromatic floral print in the background, it just adds so much dimension to the card!

If I don't get a chance later, I want to take this time to wish you all a fabulous Valentine's Day a month early!

Tennis Lessons

You may recognize this Becky Fleck sketch that the DT members used as inspiration a couple of weeks ago.  This sketch was perfect to capture the few photos that I had of my daughter taking her first tennis lessons.  I'm glad I was able to get these photos, as she decided maybe tennis wasn't really her thing :)  I was able to use several of the SS&M lines to create this layout.  The background is from the game day line, while the smaller patterns come from the Name of the Game, On the Edge Sports and Sports Head On lines. The stickers coordinate with the Sports on Fire line. Just one of the reasons I love SS&M papers, they can be combined to give you more options when scrappin'.

The end of another Football Season

It's hard to believe another football season has come to an end.  Fortunately they had an amazing year, undefeated until the last game.  Alex got a lot of play time, which is great for a 7th grader.  He loved the games when he was able to sack the quarterback :)  I wanted to keep this layout simple, to keep the focus on his picture.  I can't believe how grown up he looks!!  I used the football paper from the Title Sports line as my background paper and added my scraps from the same line & the School is Cool line to come up with the colorful circles.

Project 12, December

We started out the year with the challenge to do the Project 12 monthly layouts sponsored by Scrapbooking and Cards Today.  I'm pleased to say the I have now completed the December sketch and am even happier to be able to share it with all of our blog readers.

These are photos of my family on my husband's side taken at our annual family Christmas.  We got together for brunch at an old hotel that has been recently restored.  Let me be the first to say this place is beautiful.  Can you believe it even has a 2 lane bowling alley in it?  To say the little kids were in heaven would be an understatement.

Thanks for looking.  I hope you all were closed out 2010 surrounded by people you love and may 2011 bring great joy and blessings your way.

Unwrapping Gifts

Here's my take on the sketch on this month's sketch.

I love that this sketch has such clean lines.  I loved being able to use a variety of papers.  I love incorporating journaling strips (I came to this conclusion while putting this layout together - you may be seeing this technique utilized a lot more in the future).  I love how this layout came together.  I hope you like it too.

I knew this sketch would be perfect for pairing together the December calendar paper along with some custom varied spirit names paper with December printed in red and green!  A wonderful combination for holiday photos.

Let it SNOW!!

Here in Maine, we finally got our first snowstorm of the winter!  We had barely had enough to call it a "white Christmas."  Then, only a few days after Christmas, 16 inches of white stuff fell overnight!  My kids are having a great time in it, and it's put me in the mood for snow.  Give me a week or two, and I'll be begging for warm sand and palm trees, but for now, I'm embracing the cozy feeling of being snowed in.

I used the January Calendars Made Easy Papers and created this snow banner.  The photo doesn't do it justice- it came out SO cute!  I cut the big snowflakes on my cricut, using the January paper and then went to town adding more snowflakes!

Here's a close up so you can see some of the details of the paper!

Here is the paper that I used for the background snowflakes that inspired the whole project:
Where ever you are I hope that you are warm and cozy today!

Christmas Traditions

With Christmas right around the corner, I decided to focus my layout on one of the traditions we have as a family.  My husband Mark grew up in England, so we make sure we have Christmas Crackers every year.  In fact, I thought about skipping it this year, but my 14 year old daughter told me I wasn't allowed :)  One of the challenges this month was to only use one line.  Not only did I only use one line, I only used one paper from the Calendar Line.  I first created an 8 1/2 by 11 layout, inked the edges and then applied it to my 12 x 12 sheet of paper.
Wishing you and your family a safe, healthy and happy Christmas.

Just Dance!

My daughter has been dancing since she was 3 years old.  We were talking the other night amongst the moms at dance class about how different they all looked when they started and about all of the different costumes that they have had throughought the years.  Just for old time's sake, I pulled out her dance pictures from the past few years and realized that the "wallet" sized photos would work perfectly on the Becky Fleck sketch that we are playing with this momth!  I made a a few changes to make it work, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out!

December Sketch Fun!

Ahh...the middle of December and life is crazy busy with planning for the coming holiday!  My mind seems to wander constantly during these busy times, always thinking of  another thing before even finishing my current project! So, when we decided to play with a sketch this month, I was thrilled!  Nothing keeps me on task like working from a sketch!  Even if I have to walk away from creating for a few minutes, a few hours, or even a few days, I can get right back on track just by looking at my sketch!  I love the help it gives me!

An this month's sketch is fantastic!  It comes courtesy of Becky Fleck and Page Maps!  You can find so many wonderful sketches to inspire you on her blog!  Make sure to head on over and check them out!

Begging Burros

One of our favorite stops on our South Dakota road trip was in Custer State Park to see the Begging Burros!  If we would have had more food for them we would have stayed all day - but they quickly ate the two loaves of bread we brought for them and a box of graham crakers!  At one point we had eight burros around our car! The white one at my window would nibble on my coat if I didn't feed him fast enough!

Using up those scraps...

and scrapping really fast!!

With the holiday season upon us, there are so many things to do that I find my scrappy time being sparse.  That is why I try to take short cuts and get in a little scrapping when I can.  For this layout, I down into my stash of scraps and made a bunch of die cut trees in various shades of green.  I never realized how MANY shades of green there were!  Add a title and a little rub-on "journaling" and BAM!  one holiday page done!!
I also got to take a pretty good chunk out of my stash of scraps!!  DOUBLE SCORE!!!  So what are some of your shortcuts?  How do you use your stash??

Happy Holidays!!

True Love

I really love this picture of my parents.  They are still so much in love after 49 years of marriage.  I am so lucky to have such inspiration!  This picture was taken last Christmas Eve.  They have been driving to our house on Christmas Eve so they can see the tree and house all decorated for Christmas.  My daughter has already asked if they are coming again this year :)  I love them so much and I am so grateful for all the time were have spent together.

The Avenue of Trees

This year our community held a fundraiser during it's annual winter festival, The Avenue of Trees.  A dozen trees, each decorated by a different person or local business.  The organizers talked me into decorating one of these little 3-ft. trees.  As a school employee, I decided to decorate it in our school colors and use a school theme.  Well, it turned out to be the BIG WINNER of the evening bringing in $230 in the auction.  What a fun night!

The art of bowling --- I've never figured it out.  I bowl different every time I step on the lanes.  I have a great time, but form and skill have nothing to do with it!  My son, Luke, on the other hand, he is all about how he looks when he bowls.  He has perfect form!  He works hard to perfect his release and follow through.  He is determined to do it right!

Playing with Paint!

The joy of a empty paper towel or toilet paper tube!  I know, sounds strange, right?  But anyone who loves art knows the magic that can be found in them as a art supply!  Even as a scrapbooker, I love to play with them!  For this layout, I used my empty tube as a paint applicator!

I love to play with paint - almost anything around the house can be turned into an art supply.  Some other fun things to use with paint are:

string
straws
marbles

Lots of photos...

Do you ever go on a field trip or vacation and have a ton of pictures that you want to scrap?  For my daughter's field trip, I had a bunch and I just didn't want to narrow it down any further, so I went old school and added them all!!

Scrappin Sports & More has an AWESOME Down on the Farm line of papers that are perfect for those heritage or "back in time" kinds of pictures.  The field trip was of Souder Village, which takes place in the early 1900s.

Be Thankful

I came across this poem online and I thought that it was an incredible lesson for my children on the simple things in life that they should be thankful for- things that they might not always remember to be thankful for.  I paired it with this great photo of them together and these beautiful papers from Scrappin' Sports & More and this layout came together.  Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

A time to give thanks...

With the Thanksgiving holiday on it's way here in the states, it is a time for us to stop and reflect on our many blessings.  This has been a year of challenges and triumphs for our family and I am truly grateful that we have made it this far.  When looking for a picture to scrap for this theme, I remembered a picture I had taken of my son, Logan, as he made his First Reconciliation this past Spring.  It just really demonstrates how I feel and reminds me to stop and give thanks!  I am thankful for so many things, and I have to mention how thankful I am to be a part of this Design Team.  Scrappin Sports & More is a wonderful company to work for.  The staff really makes you feel like family and the team are an awesome group of gals!!

Custom Papers

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it's time to reflect on the things we are thankful for.  Obviously the one thing I am most grateful for is my family, my kids, my husband, my parents, all of my family.

I'm thankful to have been introduced to scrapbooking - it's such a wonderful way to show those we love most what they mean to us and to document our lives.  Today I'm sharing a layout of my son.  He's a rough 'n tumble kind of guy, not one that you would think cares a lot about "mom's hobby", one who would rather the camera  not be pointed at, at any time.  But I've discovered that "mom's hobby" really does matter to him.  When he comes home from college, many times I see him looking thru the layouts I've done in his absence and when he see's one about him I see him smile.  I know he is touched by it, I know he appreciates it.  It's those moments I am most thankful for.

Let SS&M help you document those that you important in your life.

Awww --- I love Fall

Fall is my favorite time of year, right next to summer --- and spring --- and sometimes winter.  Okay, I love them all!  I love that I live in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest where we have 4 distinct seasons and climate changes!  I love to document the changes in the scenery and having my kids in the pictures just make them so much better.  I am so thankful for their willingness to have their pictures taken!  So today, that is what I am most thankful for --- fun fall photos!
